Cabin Fever 2

We took Jack to the state fair the week before labor day. He did not get to enjoy any food on a stick, etc. but we had a wonderful time. It was fun to have a different place to take a walk, and always a treat to go to the fair. The petting zoo was Jack's favorite portion of the trip. He really enjoyed seeing the different animals. He thought all of the animals at the state fair were dogs.. "Dah dah dah!!!" He yelled at them the whole time we were around the petting zoo and in the animal birthing pavilion. I wanted to take a piglett home, but reaized that it would soon turn into a huge pig, and I don't really want to become attached to a pig since bacon is my favorite food.
On our way home to go to the lake, we stopped in Kearney to see Trevor. After supper we let Jack play in the bed of his pickup. Cool parents huh!? We have a special connection to Trevor's truck because it sat in our garage for a few months during its restoration. It is done now and looks great!

Jack was really dirty from playing around in Trevor's truck so he had to have a bath when we got to Rod and Phyllis' house. There was a wonderful new toy to play with in Grandma's sink.

Grandma and Grandpa didn't realize just how squirmy Jack had become since they last saw him. They had quite a time putting lotion on him after his bath. Jess and I enjoyed watching someone else wrangle him.

We finally made it to the cabin and spent lots of time outside despite the wind. Laura and I played volleyball, the guys had a great round of boccee, and the kids had a great time playing together. It was a great weekend at the lake. We didn't get to watch the Husker game but listened to it on the radio. For our half-time entertainment we had a funeral for Gus (see additional blog).
Bill, Jack, Caitie and me trying to enjoy ourselves at the beach. You can't tell from the pictures but there were near huricane force winds, tsunami sized waves, and the water was less than warm this labor day. It also breaks my heart that Jack's first trip to the beach was at my least favorite beach at the whole lake. The good news is that he won't remember and I am trying to forget it.
I think it may have been one of the most miserable beach experiences I have ever had, so I don't blame Jack for hating it one bit.
Jess and Caitie, braving the cold and wind.

Cori helped Jack finish all his food...even what fell on the floor.
Cori just knows how to pose.

I forgot to bring the play-pen for Jack from Holdrege, so he slept in the closet. It was a cozy little place for him to flop out of by morning. I think he still had a hand or two in there when we woke up.
Natalie tried to help us get a picture of Jack in his closet bed.

Jack wasn't about to sit still in his makeshift bed if he was awake!

Cori tried out Jack's funny bed before we picked it up.
We never remember to get a picture of all the kids when they are together, and we got everyone but the Barwick boys. They had to spend the holiday with their mom, so they didn't get to share in our fun weekend.

We capped off our Labor Day weekend with one more swim with Bill's girls. They decided to spend the night in Lincoln Monday. We came and swam with them for a while. It is always a treat to get to visit someone staying in a hotel with a pool (and hot tub!).
It was back to the grind Tuesday, so nice that Monday was already behind us.
