Just Another Manic Monday

Monday morning we woke up and thought it would be another normal day. Jack had his bottle, we were all settled in to go back to sleep for a while and then he threw up, and up, and up, and up... well you get it, and I was covered in it. Even the dog got thrown up on. So we headed to the doctor's office because Jack was too tired to even sit up and still throwing up; definitely not his bubbly self.

They figured out that he had an intussusception which basically means that his intestines went inside themselves like a telescope colapses. We were sent to the hospital where they gave the poor little guy a barium enema. This helped to reverse the problem but it didn't correct it completely. So he spent the whole afternoon being a cuddly little sickey. That evening they did a little operation to finish fixing his problem and they took out his appendix while they were in there because they already had him opened up. So by 9:30 pm we were back in his Hospital room and on the road to recovery.
He's just out of surgery and still pretty knocked out from the procedure. I'm letting all his well wishers know that he is out of surgery.

I made Jess stay at work all day Monday since we didn't know for sure what was going on, but we knew they had it under control. Jess felt bad that he wasn't there to sit around and wait with me and Jack.

When Jess got to the hospital Tuesday morning, Jack was still not feeling too zippy. I ran home to shower and change since Daddy was there to be with Jack.

By the time I got back Aunt Jessi was there and so was some of Jack's pep.

As the day wore on, Jack went up and down. He'd be pretty happy and move around a lot, then he'd feel his pain and have to rest for a while, but he was already leaps and bounds ahead of how he was all day Monday. He was restful when Grammy got there...

but then he really started feeling better. He was pretty happy to look out the windows and throw things out of his crib. That evening they let us go home.

We've been home two-days now, and Grammy stayed with him while Jess and I went to work. His first day was a little hard because he didn't quite know his limits yet, but he's figured out just how hard he can play now. He seems to be pretty much his normal self...our bubbly boy is back!

Wonderful Weekends

We have had some really great weekends since the 4th of July. On the Saturday following the 4th we came home from the lake early so Grandma and Grandpa could see Jack. We went out to eat in Kearney and then went to the park to play. We played at the park that was our extended backyard when we lived there. It really made us miss our house in Kearney even more. We even walked to the alley to pretend that we still lived there.

Grandma and Grandpa hadn't really seen Jack play at the park yet, so that was a lot of fun. Grandma even took Jack down the slides a couple of times, but that footage is stuck in my video camera, so I'll have to publish it later.
We had a nice uneventful week following the 4th. Nothing too special happened, we just chased Jack around and had lots of fun!

The next Friday I had a fun night with my law school friends. We haven't all been together since finals because Heather is working in Ord this summer. Saturday Jessi and Ryan stayed at our house after a wedding, so Sunday morning we were able to hang out for a while.

Jack dressed in camo so he could be just like Aunt Jessi.

Jack and I were kinda tired but we figured out that we were getting colds. Sunday evening before we were sick we had Steph, Scott, Brandon, and Brandon's roommate Alex over for supper. Brandon started college Monday so he had a few things to pick up the night before. We are really excited that he will be so close!!

As I said, Jack and I had really bad colds that week. We were home from work and school until Thursday. He has been really busy at school this month (when he has been there), here are a few fun pictures that his teacher has sent to me.

I like to assume that he is raising his hand to answer a question because he is the smartest kid in his class...but, I think he's just trying to catch a bubble.

That Friday night we had more fun!!! We went to the Pinewood Bowl. That is the outdoor amphitheater at Pioneers Park. They were doing my favorite musical "The Music Man".

We sat toward the back so we would have lots of room to roam. We took a picnic and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Jack really enjoyed playing with grass.

Here is a video of him "discovering" grass.
It was a great place for us because Jack didn't crawl away too far, and he'd just lay down and rest when he needed to. We had a wonderful time and wish they did shows every month.

Saturday was another fun day. Drew and Coy came to Lincoln and we took the boys to the zoo. It is a really fun zoo, not too big, but not too small. Jack seemed to enjoy riding around, but I'm only sure that he saw the bigger animals. He looked in the right direction at the smaller ones, but didn't get too excited.

Coy had a great time. He was able to pet the goats,

feed a camel,
(I promise there was a camel)

feed a butterfly...and try to crush them too,

and he fed a "Paper Eating Lion". He was amazed at the fact that this lion could suck up any paper he threw at it.

The boys rode a bronze turtle and Coy practiced his big brother skills with Jack.

"Riding" the turtle was a highlight of Jack's trip to the zoo.

He was pooped by the time we got to the car though.

Cabin Fever

We had a WONDERFUL 4th of July weekend at the lake!!

After work on Wednesday we loaded up and headed to Holdrege. We stayed the night there. Thursday we went to the hospital and law office so Rod and Phyllis could show Jack off. As soon as we were done doing that we hit the road and headed to the cabin!

The Bonars and girls were at the cabin when we got there. They came Wednesday on their way home from the Black Hills. It was a real treat to be able to light off fireworks with the girls because they had never done that before. We had a great time with them, and wish they could come to the cabin to play every summer!!

Jess and I had a great time just floating around and relaxing while Grammy watched Jack each afternoon.

The first evening we drove to Indianola for pizza at the Rocket Inn. After dinner it was on to McCook to buy a new float at Walmart. Once we were back at the cabin we could play. It was a great evening.

Jack and Cori had a great time swimming in a pool on the deck.

We could hardly keep Cori out of the pool!!!

They really loved playing with each other.

One evening we took Jack on his first boat ride. He wasn't sure what to think about it, didn't love it, but didn't hate it the whole time. He found is life jacket a little cumbersome.

Cori loved the boat and looked like a rockstar in her new shades!

All of our adventures made us really tired, so we had to sleep in every morning.
The kids had lots of bathtub fun too!!

Saturday morning it was finally the perfect weather for the kids to go swimming in the lake. Jack had a great time and loved his race car float. We weren't sure how he'd like the chilly lake water, but after a few seconds, he thought it was great fun.

Cori swam around in the turtle I used when I was her age.
Jack does not like the traffic to get backed up though.
Cori took her first jet ski ride that morning and she even helped me take it out that afternoon.

Jack semi-enjoyed his first paddle boat ride...the life jacket was the culprit again, or I think he would have fully enjoyed his time on the paddle boat.
It really was a great weekend. I can still waterski after having to take last summer off. Jess was a GREAT sport all weekend with Mom, Steph, and me!!!
